It's a simple sentence, both literally and in its meaning. Competitors compete.
Subject: competitors. Verb: compete. But, is it a statement about competitors? That they are a distinct group of other people? Or is it a command? Perhaps this is the actual subject: "(You) competitors compete." Maybe it's both. Maybe you have a choice. You can let it be a statement about competitors in general, or you can let it be about you. You, competitor, compete.

Competition is the highest form of expression.
We want to score the most points Get the best grades Have the longest snap streak But in athletics, especially track and field, we push our bodies and our minds to their limits, to see who is strongest fastest has the most endurance who can jump higher throw farther Further Higher Faster And in 13 out of 17 events, you're all alone. It's just you there in the ring on the runway on the track But you're never really alone, because you're part of a squad a community a corps d'esprit a TEAM. So this spring, join the team that in the past decade alone has produced six state champions two runners up 26 all-state athletes and–most importantly–thousands of personal records set by athletes just like you. |
